Precision Fastener Installation

PEM® Fastener Insertion

HM Metalworks provides in-house PEM® fastener insertion to permanently install threaded fasteners into sheet metal components with precision and consistency. This process creates strong, reliable threads in thin materials without welding, preserving material integrity while supporting clean, repeatable results for custom and production applications.

Integrated In-House Advantage

PEM® fasteners provide a clean, permanent threading solution in thin sheet metal where tapping or loose hardware may not be practical. By clinching directly into the material, they eliminate the need for welding, reduce part distortion, and create strong, flush-mounted threads that won’t loosen over time.

Handled entirely in-house, our PEM® fastener insertion process improves consistency, shortens lead times, and integrates seamlessly into our fabrication workflow — delivering durable, assembly-ready parts from prototype through production.

618 PEM® Press

Our 618 insertion press handles the bulk of our prototype and short-run work. Fasteners are placed by the operator, which gives us flexibility on one-off parts, mixed hardware, and pieces where placement changes from run to run. It sets threaded studs, nuts, and standoffs into sheet metal with consistent seating and no heat input, so parts stay flat and dimensionally accurate.

1025 PEM® Press

Our second insertion press, the 1025, is equipped with an automated fastener feeder. Rather than an operator loading each fastener by hand, the machine feeds and sets them in sequence, which shortens cycle times on parts carrying multiple fasteners and holds consistent seating depth across an entire run. The result is greater repeatability on production quantities and less risk of a missed or misaligned fastener. Operating two presses also allows us to run prototype and production work in parallel, so smaller orders are not delayed behind larger ones.
